Reaper has lost Waves plugins

Post by GRAHAM99 »

I have about half a dozen Waves plug ins which have been ok for ages in Reaper.I downloaded a demo of EZDrummer 2 and Reaper cannot now find the Waves plug ins.I have tried adding the correct path to the VST plug ins in preferences.
Any ideas!!

Ugh. This happens sometimes. I'm trying to remember what I did about it. I think I opened up Waves Central and checked all the products in there. I think you need to make sure that Waves Central is also in your plug-ins folders list.

I have checked Waves Central,it all seems in order.
I think it is something to do with the list of paths Reaper uses to locate plug ins.I added one for EZDrummer2 and think I may have overwritten the Waves directory.
Drives you crazy things like this!!

I'm assuming you've tried a re-scan?
Underneath the text window with the paths, there's a Edit path list that makes it much easier to see what's being scanned.

Pretty much what it says on the tin. It wipes any current record and then rescans and adds whatever is in the scan list.

Gonna try the clear cache and rescan.
I have got plug ins all over the place,it needs sorting out!
What would restore do? I would love to able to get back to the settings about two weeks ago but there is a project from yesterday that I need.

That's a good suggestion. I lost a setup which would have been really time consuming to rebuild, and I did have a drive image, but thought, give restore a try - sure enough, 10 minutes later, my PC was back to what it was before, the PC having automatically done a restore point before the changes

If by "project" you mean .wav files, MIDI data files etc, Restore won't touch them. If you wanted belt and braces, dump the project to an external drive?

I use Samplitude and it has an option "Save complete VIP in.." and that save the whole shooting match. Son has sent me one from France and it played on a different version of Samplitude perfectly well. I assume other DAWs have a similar function?

My VST structure is a bit convoluted and for some time straddled a 32/64 bit divide. At some point I rationalised things because Reaper was losing sight of some VSTs and reporting two versions of others.

I can't remember the details but pulling all the .dll files into shape and making a mindmap of where more involved installations where (and telling Reaper) made life much easier.

I am going to study it all to sort it out.
I think the Waves plug ins are different in that they need the wave shell bit not just the .dll files.
I have seen on Reaper forums that people have problems with Waves!
What does Reaperx64 mean?

Yep, the Waveshell can indeed be confusing, but needs to be correctly in place for any Waves plug-ins to appear in your VST list.

Reaper is available in both 64-bit (Windows x64) and 32-bit versions depending on which version of Windows you're running:

https://www.reaper.fm/download.php

However, if you've installed 64-bit Reaper, it has a wonderful built-in bridge that can automatically run any older 32-bit (and even DirectX) plug-ins in your collection as well. It works beautifully for me!
