New single release -- HER EYES THE SUN, HER MOUTH A FLAME
Super happy to have completed this performance piece, Her Eyes The Sun, Her Mouth A Flame.
Originally planned to be recorded in a commercial studio, the COVID variant put the brakes on that idea, and so I ended up recording my jams until I had something I could live with.
Recorded live to stereo with no post production, this was performed using a Soma Labs Lyra-8, Moog Subharmonicon, and BOSS RC-5 looper. It was mastered by our very own James Perret.
I don't know how to describe this one aside from having an anxiety attack whilst drifting across space in a life pod.
I hope you all enjoy this trip through the cosmos!

This is a great grower - at first I wasn't sure what was happening, but slowly and surely I got sucked into the rhythm of the clicks, then the bowed notes, and then the low drone ones.
It felt like a spider's web being created before my eyes, with a definite momentum, yet a sense of clarity and direction.
A very different and almost meditational experience!
Bravo Ben!

This is indeed a very slow developer. Possibly something as a background for meditation I'd guess.

I hope it's alright to make a trifle suggestion.
Please ignore this trifle suggestion.
When on 2sec 3sec rhythm fades in replacing it with a heartbeat : could sample heartbeat from JmJarre Last Rendezvous Ron's Peace

Saxophone was to be played by astronaut Ron McNair onboard space shuttle Challenger 1986.
Or making a beatboxing heartbeat recording yourself beatboxing.

Thanks for listening and for the suggestion! I love the idea but it would go against my manifesto of all sounds being designed on the spot and doing it as a musique concrete performance (no post production).

I'm glad you were able to complete your performance piece under the current circumstances. COVID can be a real pain, but at least you were able to get it done in the end.

Thanks! Yes, I would not have been able to push on to the next thing with this still looming large.

Had this on yesterday and just thought I'd pass on my wife's compliments as well. Lovely piece of music.

To my dismay I realise that I didn't reply to this topic even though I bought the track before hearing it to completion when Ben first posted the link.
I've listened to it on a number of occasions since and again today. My appreciation of any work tends to increase over time and by now it's one of my 'go to' tracks when I'm in the mood for something to chill me out.
It's got a beautiful 'take your time' vibe about it, the timbres are superb and and I'd recommend it to anyone who can take a moment or three out of the frantic pace of modern life and let it sink in.
It's work of art and I love it Ben

I long for the days when I knew what nostalgia was.

The first time I listened to this was in the evening when my mind tends to be full of 'busy' thoughts.. This time it's just after breakfast when I'm relaxed and I can appreciate it's depth more - and the silence at the end, which is quite important.
