Re: Review my Master please!
Just having a quick listen now, a couple of things spring to mind, firstly is that the whole thing feels over-compressed to me. It's pumping like a dance track, and that doesn't really fit the genre to me. As a result there's not enough dynamics for my liking and what should be the loud bits don't jump out.
It's hard for me to get past this to comment on other aspects of the mix at the moment.
Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear.
Your C maj jazz track that's come on afterwards feels much better balanced though, much more dynamic.

Thanks blindrew!
It did occur to me that it might be over compressed.
I'll try to ease up and make more dynamic
didn't realize it was pumping so much. but i see what you mean
thanks for the kudos on the jazz track

Re: Review my Master please!
I'd agree about the compression and that is most apparent at the beginning of the track where the solo guitar is almost squeezed out of existence when the rest of the instruments come in.
I too like the jazzy guitar, that's a good track and well presented
Re: Review my Master please!
Thanks OneWorld. I appreciate you weighing in.
I'll ease up on the compression.
The solo guitar at the beginning ends when the other instruments come in. So i wonder what you mean by squeezed out. Would you mind elaborating?
Thanks,
Ron

Re: Review my Master please!
The guitar plays loud and clear and when the compression comes in the volume of the guitar seems to drop right off. I sort of understand now, that yes you lower the volume or stop playing the guitar, but a guitar continues to play though, starting at 008 which I took to be a continuance of the opening solo guitar and just as prominent
Re: Review my Master please!
I think it's a great tune, but the production needs some work!
I think after removing the pumping compression it will be a lot better. I'm not clear what effects exactly that is having - but the track needs more power and impact, particularly at lower frequencies.

Re: Review my Master please!
As is, with all the compression still on, the master track volume level only fluctuates about 3 or 4 db throughout the song.
Is this a good way to gauge if a song is overcompressed?
If so, what would a good fluctuation range be?
Thanks,
Ron
