I will await Cosair's response from the test I have sent them and then see. In the meantime I will (in my nan's old phrase) "dip my bread in and say nowt" while it's working.

I wanted to edit the above post but annoyingly the sos forum has some kind of limited time window for editing.

Anyway, it has not gone back to refusing to power on. Completely illogical as why would it run most of the day fine ? Its driving me bonkers

........HAH! I learned AAAAGES ago that computers and software systems are anything BUT logical!

Paradoxical but true.

Cosair have now asked me to do some weird test on the psu with a paperclip. You couldn't write it.

All three cores are spiking high temp 66,59,60 degrees. Could this be the culprit ? This is when it is running idle with no programs open.

I seem to be talking to myself now but here goes anyway.

I have applied some new thermal paste which seems to have helped with the higher temps. Excellent. However, Any disturbance opening the PC seems to affect the psu. It turns on for about 2 seconds and immediately shuts off. A slap on the back of the pc and it starts again. Weird. Still can't get it to come back on if it goes into sleep mode though but I'll live with it until the illusive "proof of purchase" materialises from the chap who built it for me..

Sounds like a loose connection or bad connection somewhere to me.

I have checked all cables but nothing seems out of place. It is intermittent except when it goes into sleep mode, then it always fails to come back on. I hate illogical mysteries of which I seem to get no end of with technology.

Just to update, Corsair sent me a replacement PSU and it's working perfectly well. They had me send the actual faulty PSU to Scan.

Thanks all for the help in getting here.
