Re: One Synth Challenge #7- 2022 Edition
Vexingly it would appear that the VCA on my synth is faulty and, in this case, renders the whole thing unusable for this task.

Reliably fallible.

It's an option.
I mean, technically, it is an option.

Re: One Synth Challenge #7- 2022 Edition
I was thinking of doing it myself, but with the added difficulty of playing it backwards. However, my post-Covid breathing is too noisy.
I’ll get back to my lurking now….
Above all, be kind.
Re: One Synth Challenge #7- 2022 Edition
I was going to ask about the rules, but then found the sticky thread.
I have far too many soft-synths, but I have tried to produce at least a complete piece or two with each one just to find out what I like about them, if anything.
I could enter one of those tracks, but since I've just ordered my first new hardware synth in about twenty years, that should probably be my choice!

Its a bit early season for me but if I can find the time Ill put an entry in.
Can we have at least a few days after publication to listen to the tracks before the clue phase begins ? It all seemed over so quick last time.

Well, I was going to try the QS300, but it's not just the display backlight that's dud. I can't get anything out of the bottom octave and a half keys
This is weird. It will send MIDI out in that range from the keyboard, and will receive MIDI to it's internal banks. It could be some obscure setting, although I've never tried to do this. Also there is no official factory reset mentioned anywhere in the manual, and the two suggestions I've seen on the 'net seem to set a lot of stuff but make no difference to this.
Frankly I've run out of patience with it, so if anyone wants it let me know, you can have it for free.

I was going to, but unfortunately I found the power supply.

What I thought I might do once all submissions have been received is to publish the music along with two lists - one of the contributors and the other of the synths used. I thought this might give people a fighting of chance of getting at least a couple right

Hmm, I think we'd (secretly) enjoy a few days of total puzzlement

I like that idea. Even knowing most of the folks who contribute to the One Synth Challenges it can be very difficult to make guesses in the absence of a candidate list, fun though it is anyway

I like this idea, since there are some 50 bazillion synths to choose from these days...

"The Best" piece of gear is subjective.

I don't like this idea myself. Guessing without a list is much more challenging. For example, if someone could create sounds typical of one synth by using another, I'd like that fact to be a secret until the "reveal".
Re: One Synth Challenge #7- 2022 Edition
I can see the pros and cons. At the end of the day, it's Rich's thread, Rich's rules. For reference, last time, the tracks were posted up with no info, then full info was given two days later.
I'd be happy with the tracks+lists approach, but maybe the lists could be kept as a separate link so that people could listen with no preconceptions if they chose.

Welcome to the cat-herding club Rich
Jolly glad you're doing it though. I can think of a couple of ways to make everyone happy and I'm sure you can too but feel free to ping me if you need any help.

Re: One Synth Challenge #7- 2022 Edition
What I am going to do:
Day 1: Post the tracks
Day 3: Post the list of synths
Day 5: Post the list of contributors
That gives a couple of days of blind guessing for those nutters that like that sort of thing.
There you go, pussy cats, now I'm off to nail some jelly to the ceiling
