Day 1: Post the tracks

Day 3: Post the list of synths

Day 5: Post the list of contributors

That gives a couple of days of blind guessing for those nutters that like that sort of thing.

There you go, pussy cats, now I'm off to nail some jelly to the ceiling :P

I have duly stickied this topic. For reference the last time this was done was in 2021 in form of the One Synth Challenge VI : The Undiscovered PulseWidth.

For anyone who has not participated in this before, it may be beneficial to have a read through The SOS One Synth Challenges : Rules and Results Sticky Thread.

Rich Hanson is running the project this year and there may be some minor tweaks to the formula but the gist remains the same so contact him via PM, or reply to this topic, if there are any questions.

I looking forward to hearing what we all come up with :)

Other than how I am going to do the reveal, the rules will remain the same, otherwise it's just too confusing (for me, at least!)

Mine is done but I’m wanting to post it to my YouTube account. Just wondering how long you’re running this for as I may have to use this track and come up with another one. Ta!

Closing date is 2nd October, results a week or so after that. Nothing to stop you posting the track on YT or using it for other things though; just avoid posting it on the forum until then. It's just a fun guessing game for the synth nerds at SOS.

I think mine is nearly complete already!

When you have completed yours, upload it to somewhere from where I can download it (DropBox, SoundCloud with download enabled, etc), ideally in FLAC or WAV format.

When all submissions are in I shall make a SoundCloud page with downloadable items so that we can hear the synths in all their glory without being subject to compression artefacts.

Is this open to people who have no idea what they're doing? If so, I'm tempted..........

Also, can we submit some notes about how we did it? I'm thinking of live multi-tracking, i.e. no synth syncing....... or maybe that should be NO! .....synth sinking.

Notes are good, I always like to hear about the process. For what it's worth, everything I do is multitracked, every time I try to sync I get that sinking feeling and screw it up :D

I was pondering exactly these questions (except I don’t know what synth syncing is, especially since it’s a one-synth challenge, what am I syncing with? Rhetorical question.).

Anyway I thought it might be an opportunity to learn something, but I don’t want to lower the tone.

Sorry, I'm not sure I have the right jargon. I was thinking the same synth played on three separate tracks played live as opposed to programmed/sequenced (and therefore synced) in the box.

Thinking about it, we could simply talk about how we did it in this thread once all is revealed.

Maybe we should do our own "Newbie OSC"? I mean you know what it's like in a pub jam session with your mates and someone joins in who hasn't quite got the hang of their instrument yet... I for one would not be offended if told to bugger off!

Agree with this... Also folks, stop telling everyone you're in, and what kit you're using - spoils half the fun!
P.S.
I might be, maybe not... depends on accessing a suitable synth.

This. I'm a complete novice with a synth and this will be my fourth stab.

All options open as to how you programme or play them, only rule is all sounds from the same synth. :)

And yes, talking about how they were done afterwards is very much part of the fun. :)
