The Behringer Keyboards 'n' Stuff Thread #3
Re: The Behringer Keyboards 'n' Stuff Thread #3
My first proper synth was a Roland SH09, and a friend also had one. He subsequently bought a Juno 60 because it was essentially a polyphonic SH09. Same controls, same structure, just as easy to use, and affordable in a way the bigger polys just weren't.
But I agree with the sentiment above. Given how affordable and powerful some polysynths are now, a Juno6/60/160 alike seems a bit pointless.

That chorus is a bit special though, and sort of makes it, I doubt whether the Berry would equal it, but yes, it is a bit pointless.

This one's definitely a cash-in on the nostalgia scene, for sure. I've had my Juno 6 for well over 30 years and I do think they're nice – they're immediate, hands-on, nothing is hidden or obscure in any way – they do not very much, but they do all of it pleasingly simply. I think that's the attraction really. Aside from the fact it's part of Roland's analogue glory years, it's really just a nice simple synth.
Caveat being, they were good value back in the day. Not so much now. You get a lot more for your upward of 2k these days.

Yes, I do agree that the chorus is a special thing - it needed to be to prop up the Juno's weedy single DCO!
I'm speaking from many years of Juno ownership. By the time I could upgrade to something more capable I couldn't wait to rid myself of it. It did a good job for me, but a power-house synth it ain't.

I had an SH09 too. However it cost me under £100 second hand in the days when a new Juno 60 was still almost £1k, and it was relegated to background sequencer effects and noises where its lack of sonic versatility wasn't as noticeable.

Also I'm pretty sure I saw on another forum that Behringer have announced a version of the Juno chorus in a pedal.
Re: The Behringer Keyboards 'n' Stuff Thread #3
Back in the late 70’s early 80’s, I used to look down my nose at things like Juno's, Jupiter’s, in fact, any early poly synth, I used to think they were just glorified "keyboards" like home organs, there were "synthesisers" proper ones, like the Moog modular, 26/2500 and EMS, they were the ones to have, and I always thought those early poly's were a joke, you couldn’t even patch them, my first synth was a VCS3 with the DK2 keyboard, I bought it in 1975, much to the mystification of our neighbours at the time, who were always asking where "these strange noises" were coming from.

Is it the TC Electronic June-60? That and a subsequent V2 have been around for a while.

I take your point. I had an HS60 for a while which was all I could afford, but the sounds didn't really fit the music I wanted to make. But I think they're a staple of certain genres, like the 303...? So I can see why a lot of people would want one.
Re: The Behringer Keyboards 'n' Stuff Thread #3
Behringer should enter the classical acoustic market, just imagine, a Stradivarius copy that’s as good as the real thing, for £650, a Steinway for £1,000, how about a Martin acoustic for £500?

How about a plastic Steinway? or a cardboard violin?
PS
I’m going to start a percussion box, and an acoustic box, I’m going to fill it with those plastic instruments you can get on Amazon, like Sax, Flute Trumpet etc, for those occasions when I feel like doing something stupid, like "attempting" to play sax.

It's been around a while. The June-60 chorus.
The V1 was appallingly bad and sounded nothing like. The V2 is just not so good. You have to scratch around inside to switch it from guitar to keyboard levels, and the drop in volume in keyboard mode makes it unusable.
When I tried one there was always some sort of horrible side-band noise in the output. Maybe I had a duffer, but that was enough for me.

B announced some massive price drops due to increased chip production.
https://www.synthtopia.com/content/2023 ... ity-costs/
The System 35 dropping to $1000 from $2500 is stunning, I see the price drop is already reflected on Sweetwater and they have stock.
“As semiconductors become more available and prices come down, we’re able to ramp up production. In line with our promise to share our savings with you, we’re really excited to lower our pricing by up to 60%.”
Many of the price drops are small, like a $10 price cut on the $149 Brains module. But some of the price reductions are substantial, including:
- Behringer System 55 – $1400 price cut to $1,599
Behringer System 35 – $1500 price cut to $999
Behringer System 15 – $900 price cut to $799
Behringer Poly D – $210 price cut to $599
Behringer DeepMind 12 – $130 price cut to $799
Behringer 2600 – $200 price cut to $499
Behringer MonoPoly – $210 price cut to $599
Behringer Wasp – $80 price cut to $149
Behringer Cat – $150 price cut to $199
Behringer TD-3 – $30 price cut to $129

In my experience with Thomann, sellers in the EU (and presumably still in the UK) aren't as beholden to manufacturer pricing as sellers elsewhere. So I've ordered things from Thomann Germany that they put on sale because it was significantly cheaper than the US sellers, even with shipping. Kind of goes both ways.
That being said, $1600 at current exchange rates is 1298.50GBP. Shipping + VAT can't possibly be that much, right?
Also, I just noticed that the System 15 is exactly $10,000 less than the Moog System 10.
Re: The Behringer Keyboards 'n' Stuff Thread #3
Behringer have a sense of humor.
Price drops hit Thomann, not sure if UK sellers are going to follow suit. Andertons doesn't seem to have done so. Not as deep a drop as the US, either, but that's not really a surprise.

The System-15 is now down to 999€ from 1250€ (20% OFF), the System-35 to 1190€ from 2111€ (43% OFF), and the System-55 to 1790€ from 3319€ (46% OFF). As mentioned in the other article, the Behringer Eurorack GO has dropped to the best price of 249€ instead of 329€. The starting price in Europe was 279€. Other prices changes:
Poly D: 666€ instead of 735€
MonoPoly: 508€ instead of 649€
2600: 485€ instead of 569€
Gray Meanie (2600): 508€ instead of 599€ (begin of 2023 than dropped to 549€)
There are also many price adjustments for the Eurorack modules. To write them all down would be too much now. But here are two examples: Behringer 130 Dual VCA is now 78€ instead of 109€ (January), and the 305 EQ/Mixer/Output now 85€ (before 109€).
