Mix Rescue Please?

Post by W1D3Y8W0Y »

Dear SOS Forum users my name is W1D3Y8W0Y,

I've done a really bad mix and I want you all to know how shizer it is, what's a poor boy to do?

"Too quiet" "Too bassy" "Doesn't play on a range of speakers" will all be accepted.

I'm not looking for advice on how to sing/rap, play guitar, drum performance, or anything about the singers voices, just the mix please

Why don't you give me a mix rescue? SOS in the other sense it seems

regret

There's three tracks at that link, which one are you looking for feedback on?

Seems to be mixed ok to me, there's little to compare it with, except Rip Rig and Panic although they are more of Jazz and Random Noise - did you ever listen to any of their stuff - way before their time

Also listen to Gato Barbieri - The Third World, starting at 3:00, one of the most compelling pieces of music I ever came across

Had a couple of listens but really this is so far out of my normal listening there's really nothing I can comment on other than some high pass filtering on that kick will probably still give you plenty of oomph but a lot more headroom.

Well I appreciate that, we’re thinking of replacing all the samples, but I’m happy with the bass sound, it’s going to be a lot of work, I recorded a lovely downpour today when it was raining but I really need to stick my mic in a condom and get some lavley jubbley water samples to complete my band, wish me luck xxxx

The mix is fine, it is what it is, yes it’s not usual, but that’s great, it’s your sound, you should be looking at the vocals, they lack weight and conviction, and attitude, sound too immature, also they don’t seem to be able to articulate fast enough to keep up with the rest of the mix, it’s difficult to know what else to say, vocals are a difficult thing to change, apart from getting another vocalist.
Have to be honest.

"I really need to stick my mic in a condom " I hear that some people have used clingfilm instead, does the same job :-)
