You might put your fingers through the screen emulating the polyphonic aftertouch though

One of the joys is noodling the ribbon controller on touchscreen.

I have the same experience

One of the best things for me about Wind 10/11 is touchscreen : that's the only type desktop laptop I buy.
Mouse what's that.

Funny thing when I switch to my macbook and imac I'm tapping the screen wondering why nothing's happening

I still recall from yonks ago the fun cgi animation you did for buffer overrun.

I'm all in AMD now. Although seeing your MS Surface8 I'm considering elcheapo Surface4 and i5 after what you said about i7 heat and throttling in Surface.
Even though I dig iPad, can't beat getting full fledged sw on Wind tablets.

Roland app.

I tried to use a Roland h/w editor tonight on W11, it came up ok, contacted the h/w and then froze totally. Its always worked in the past on W10.
Possibly it worked on 11 previously but I cant remember the last time I called it up. Take W11 previous with a pinch of salt.

Internet had the solution which was to [set properties &] run it in Administrator mode [also win 8 compatability was suggested but I haven found that necessary].

As a side note I'm still perfectly happy running Windows 7, but today for the very first time my Brave Browser threw up a warning that they won't be doing any more updates for Windows 7, so I might have to finally take the plunge at some stage

I feel for you Martin. A few years ago I had thought I might stay with Windows 7, but needed 8.1 to run some very necessary software, which now requires Windows 10. I've not regretted the upgrade; it's been more reliable than Windows 7 which is, of course, a good thing! I'm now wondering for how many years I can avoid Windows 11/12/13?

In my case I'm still perfectly happy with the performance of my PC and Windows 7, and I also have installed on it lots of software that I probably won't ever be able to use again (like Camel Audio's Alchemy, now Mac-only and owned by Apple, but within which I have around 300 creations of my own that I'd be lost without as options for my own music).

Alchemy runs under Windows 10 and you are even namechecked on that thread too!

You need to go through that list and determine exactly what won't run. Perhaps keep the old machine going just for those few. Win10 is a worthwhile upgrade for many reasons.

Wow - never seen that thread before. Thanks James - it's also good to know that my Alchemy sound library contributions are still remembered

However, having read the thread, it's the Digital Rights stuff that worries me, as I also did tech support for Camel Audio, and while their cleverly-written Alchemy install process did resolve a mountain of our previous tech support issues, by checking what each user did and didn't have on their hard drive that they had officially purchased, and then automatically downloading any files required, this did rely on being able to 'phone home' to the Came Audio web site, which of course no longer exists.

I do have backups of absolutely every file and Alchemy library, but according to that thread I would probably need to download a cracked version of Alchemy that bypasses the digital rights stuff so that I could successfully install it and my libraries on a new machine, despite the fact that I legitimately owned everything.

Will the Alchemy authorisation survive a migration to a new disk (as you would need if you replaced an HDD with an SSD)? If so, then I would be tempted to take a disk image of your existing disk - or even clone the disk to another one as a safety precaution - and then try an in place upgrade to Windows 10. While Microsoft said that they would stop people doing this, as I understand it, they have never actually done that so it is still possible to upgrade a Windows 7 installation to Windows 10 for free.
