Most audio interfaces mic-pres have XLR/TRS inputs. Scenario: I have an audio interface with only two inputs. I have two stereo synths to record at the same time. Can I combine the synths separate L+R output TS cables into one TRS jack (using a cable splitter) for each synth and put them into Input 1 as stereo (TRS jack) and Input 2 as stereo (TRS jack). Or do audio interface inputs only receive mono, meaning I'd need 4 inputs?

No, I'm afraid not. The TRS inputs are mono, balanced inputs. Not unbalanced stereo.
If you want to record your two stereo synths independently and simultaneously, you'll need a four-input (or larger) interface.

In my world, things get less strange when I read the manual...
The TRS inputs on mic pre's are balanced mono, not stereo. You'd need 4 inputs to record two stereo synths unless you mix the outputs from them down to a stereo pair and record just that submix.
If you are playing the synths freehand and can record the MIDI outputs of the synths, whilst playing along to whatever backing you've already got, you could then play the MIDI back per synth and record them one at a time that way.
OK thanks guys. So TRS cable can mean (1) stereo unbalanced or (2) mono balanced. Looks like I need expand with ADAT 1U rack of mic-pres like Audient ASP800 or Claret or get interface with more inputs. Shame there are no black friday deals on these. Anyways, thx again.
