First ever official Rhodes plug-ins
Free trials now available
Rhodes have announced the upcoming release of the first official virtual instrument to carry their name, the Rhodes V8. Whilst the final release is set for March 2023, Rhodes are currently offering a free trial version as part of their Missing Keys competition, where entrants are invited to use the new instrument to compose the soundtrack to a short film.
To find out more, take a look at the full news story.

Re: First ever official Rhodes plug-ins
If only there was a midi keyboard controller (no sounds) with wooden keys and hammers to mimic Rhodes Mk8 around £1k mark.
I couldn't afford one lol but there's those that could and maybe would.

Kawai VPC-1 is probably the closest you’ll get to this.
They say you are what you eat but I don't remember eating a f**king legend!
Re: First ever official Rhodes plug-ins
It’s not clear if you have to use just the Rhodes software instrument. The SOS article says you can but the rules don’t say that.
Presumably reverb and delays are acceptable but there’s no mention of synths, drum machines etc.

From Rhodes…
• Feel free to add effects to the vocal (or not).
• Make a track of any genre you wish, from
grime to drill to punk to indie.
• Keep the vocal track the length it is.
• Ensure the V8 plugin is prominent in the mix.
• Use the V8 for non-traditional Rhodes sounds such as distorted bass, unusual lead lines and heavy FX textures.
I read it that you abuse other instruments as long as the Rhodes is centre stage.

Re: First ever official Rhodes plug-ins
It says the Rhodes had to figure prominently along with the vocal, so I see no reason for not having supporting instrumentation, but you’ll probably do better in the competition if that’s kept as minimal as possible, say bass, drums and some sparse guitar.
Reliably fallible.
Re: First ever official Rhodes plug-ins
I re read it after I’d posted and was going to delete the post but couldn’t. I think you’re right, not sure if you get extra points for using the Rhodes more than once e.g. as a bass instrument, pad etc.
Re: First ever official Rhodes plug-ins
Beaten to it by IAA, but:
So it doesn't have to be the only thing used on the track, but it does need to be the main attraction.

Re: First ever official Rhodes plug-ins
Wouldn't it be awesome if someone on SoS forum won the major prize or runner up.
I won't enter.
For some reason the vocal poetry is doing my head in a bit.
I would have swashed it in fx pushed it back in the mix played over the top of it lol.

I wish it looked somewhere in the ball park of your Vintage Vibe 73A Deluxe.

If this Kawai design was more Korg SV1 SV2 then I would drool a bit.
