Midi software

Post by smallzoo »

I've been bough an Akai MPK mini mk3 for my birthday.

It comes with lots of software but I have heard it's a bit flaky. I.am new to midi recording so wondering if there is better recording software and midi software out there for the Mac rather than spending weeks learning all the Akai software ?

Cheers

Garageband comes with your Mac, so you might want to start there if you're new. Loads of instruments, nice and accessible, and a not-overwhelming interface.

Garageband is a very simple DAW (digital audio workstation). It’s good for getting you going and getting to grips with some of the basic concepts of DAWs.

I’d have a go with that and see how you get on before thinking about buying some more comprehensive DAW software.

Yes, your keyboard can record into, and play instruments in Garageband.

It should, you just need to find the last version that can run on your particular OS.

This may help.

If you open the App store application (Apple Menu > App Store...) and then select "Purchased" from the bar at the top of the window, GarageBand should be in the list of applications - since it comes pre-installed on all Macs. Click on the download button on the right and you you should get a message saying something like "Download an older version of GarageBand?". Then click on the Download button and you'll get the most recent version that is supported by the installed version of Mac OS.
