No, it looks like a bit of a disaster! But I expect it does violate an SOS trademark.
I wouldn't have thought so. I'm not aware of SOS running any events in the US. To have a valid trademark claim SOS would need to a) have registered the mark for that kind of activity, and b) be engaging in trade in that activity.
Like that shop owner changed his shop name from Singhbury's to Morrisinghs

I hope SoS laughs it orff does nothing about this.
As it always looks as spoilsport petty when a larger establishment cracks down on a small trader so forth : this would be a poor look for SoS.
Far better for SoS to be seen as a jolly good sport very British and laughing it orff.
The term ‘sound on sound’ was in use long before the magazine existed. The term will have appeared in print in quite a few reel to reel tape operations manuals and adverts.
So reproduction of the name alone isn’t an issue. They would have to be duplicating the SoS magazine logo/font and be seen to be passing themselves off as associated with or representing the magazine before one would have any chance of being able to take any action at all. And without registered trademarks or brand names, it would be a hard task indeed.
