Boss br1600 cd song recover problems

I've just bought a Boss br1600 off ebay to replace one I had 10 years ago from which I saved all my songs to cd but when I've now tried to recover them from the discs it keeps coming up 'read error'! I'm tearing my hair out here because if I can't find a way around this then years of my recordings will be lost forever, please HELP!!

Does the CD drive work properly? Can you record a short sample of sounds as a song, write them to disk and then read it back in again without a problem?

Also, is the BR1600 operating system the latest one (2.20)?

How did you save them? Did you save them as audio files? You could read them from a computer if you did.
