Mini PC for Cubase

Post by OneWorld »

I am considering buying a Mini PC just to run Cubase12, Halion6, Kontakt, Groove Agent 5

I have seen one at a good price, A Beelink SER5

AMD Ryzen5 5500U 8M cache 2.1GHZ 4.0 Turbo

16GIG DDR4 Ram

500gig M.2 NVME SSD

4K HDMI (x 2)

I am a relatively light user of Cubase - say 12 audio tracks + 8 MIDI (hardware synths + a few VSTi

I would think this would be up to the job of running Cubase 12?

I bought a lesser specc'd Mini PC for my Office dogsbody PC and it is doing a splendid job, all in a little box I could put in my pocket!

No reason why it shouldn't. Wonder how loud the little fan is going to be, though?

"The Best" piece of gear is subjective.

Not exactly the same specs but these reviews should be worth a read:

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Beelink-S ... 604.0.html

Your version with the lower wattage U series chip should run cooler and hopefully quieter.

I got one as my dogsbody office PC an£ the fan is as good as silent and anyway, with the box being so tiny it can be easier to move where the noise won’t be obtrusive, certainly not as noisy as my desktop with 3 fans whirring away

Thanks, I have been looking around and there’s a Beelink that comes with 32gig of RAM and a Ryzen 7. I’m not familiar with AMD processors but they seem to have been adopted by the computer music fraternity now. These Beelinks seem quite good value, and there are some cheaper Chinese boxes with an identical, well in fact the case is identical too and they’re even cheaper, one even has an outlet here in the UK

The best thing to look at when dealing with bargain equipment is a robust return policy :D

Thanks. Considering what the prices are on the Beelink PCs it seems it is worth taking a punt. People on YouTube are saying good things about them, ok, they could be 'paid' to be give such praise but they do come across as genuine and they show benchmark tests which back up the claims. I am trying my best to sell one to myself now, and it looks like resolve is faltering, the credit card is calling and resistance is futile !
