Seeking Mixing Feedback for My Breakbeat Track

Post by redturtle1997 »

Hey folks! Working on a breakbeat track and could use some mixing feedback. Want to know if the balance feels right, if the sounds are clear, and if it brings the energy. Appreciate any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks!

A few thoughts as I listen, really not my genre or my usual listening so take anything below with a pinch of salt.

For my ears it's a little bright overall - there's not a lot of content high up the frequency spectrum which makes what is there stand out a bit much to my ears.
Similarly I think the vocal could have a little more bottom end for my tastes, especially when it's more isolated in the track.

In general though, I love it. It's like a cross between Moderat's Bad Kingdom and The Source and Candi Staton's You Got The Love.
It's got plenty of energy and every time I though it just needed something else then along that something else came to keep me interested.
Folds down to mono pretty well too.

If I had done I would have the drums down a bit and a bit more bass/bottom end, as already mentioned, sounds a bit too bright, but that's an easy fix I would have thought. Apart from that I think it sounds very good.

Hi there Turtle.
One of my main things when I'm mixing my own Beatz based stuff nowadays is : does it hurt my ears.
So I Software EQ to make the Beatz itself (not the rest of the instruments voices) less harsh at top end, a bit of mid, more phat bottom.
Also I mix so that the Beatz isn't sticking out like a sore thumb from the rest of instruments voices, although the Beatz should be prominent.
I would do these to your music piece were I mixing it for myself.

I've had another listen, but this time with headphones, and yes the balance is much better than before, this really sounds like a pro track, it's a good tune and the balance/mix is just right - you've got a fan ;-)
