Stylus Pen for Forscore app on iPad?

Post by skipper01 »

Hi, apologies if my question is a bit mundane.
I use an app called forscore on my iPad for collating and reading score pdfs.
To date if I need to make some further notes/text on top I just use my finger.
I’d prefer a quicker and more accurate way and have some new scores that require more ‘on top’ text than usual.
The app apparently ‘recognises’ the apple pen and a Logitech device.
I appreciate it appears these can do some advanced things whereas I literally just want something better than my finger…!
Therein given the apple pen is quite expensive and my use is so basic can I expect any of these much cheaper tablet pens on the market to do what I need?
Or is there more to it with the apple pen?
I have emailed the app support but realised they don’t answer unless you sign up to a payment plan.
I thought I’d ask if anybody may know before buying something to try.
Many thanks

Yes, it does.

I had similar thoughts before I bought my Apple Pencil. Yes, they are a silly price, but they do 'just work'. Having since had a chance to try a couple of other pencil-ish devices (sorry, I've no idea which make/model they were) I'm glad I chose the Apple option - it's very responsive and capable of detailed work without having to get frustrated by delays or missed strokes.

The Logitech option (a company I've had many good devices from, so who knows?) you mention may be perfectly capable, but if you end up having to buy twice you may regret it.

Maybe you could visit an Apple store with your iPad and give the Apple Pencil a try, so you at least know how that option feels?

My wife uses forscore on an iPad pro 2nd gen and misplaced her Apple pencil. Since Amazon is great about returns, she bought a generic active stylus and it worked fine. She found the Apple pencil later :) I can ask her about it if you like.

I use a "clone" pencil with an iPad (8th gen.) for scoring in Notion and sketching and it works fine. £16.99 on Amazon.

Yeah please do ask for the specific use with forscore thoughts thanks.
I’m up for buying second hand too so may look at a gen 1 apple pen perhaps as I didn’t want to ideally spend too much
Cheers

Here's what she bought. Please note that it doesn't have palm rejection like the apple pencil.
